The God Who Delivers

What is deliverance?

Deliverance is the action of being rescued or set free, or better said, it is “God’s loving action to rescue His people.” Our Almighty God is the author and commander of deliverance.

The Covenant Keeping God

In Exodus 3:7-10, the Almighty has said to Moses that He has seen the affliction of His people and has heard their cry, and has now come to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them out of the land of Egypt and to bring them to their inheritance, the land flowing with milk and honey, the conquest of Canaan. God said, “I am the God of thy Father, the God of Abraham, the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob.” The Almighty has reminded Moses of the covenant that was made with the forefathers (Genesis 15:18-21). So, based on the covenant, the LORD came to deliver His people. This is an indication that by the covenant, there is deliverance.

The Everlasting Covenant

This new covenant is a superior covenant based on the blood of Jesus, far surpassing the blood of the animals sacrificed in the old covenant. Christ came to die for us for the remission of our sins, thereby bringing us deliverance. The prophet tells us in Ezekiel 36:26-27 that the LORD will give His people a heart of flesh for a heart of stone and put His Spirit within us. Additionally, Ezekiel states in chapter 37 verse 26, “Moreover, I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore.”

The message through Ezekiel is reinforced in Jeremiah 32:40, establishing that God’s plan for us is the everlasting covenant through the sacrifice of Christ. Christ’s death and resurrection made way for the Holy Spirit to come and live in all believers. The apostle, Paul, tells us in the Corinthian epistles that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and “where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is liberty.” Deliverance comes from God, is established by the covenant, and we are to continue in commitment to Him. In effect, we need an established relationship with God, progressing in the Word, maturing in the faith and staying in the freedom He has given.

Conclusion

It is God Almighty who delivers His people through the power of the Holy Spirit. His love is a driving force to see His people delivered. When someone gets delivered, they need to feed on the Word (Jeremiah 15:16). One must continue to nourish their soul, body, spirit, mind and heart with the words of God; it is part of how we are sustained and how we live (Deuteronomy 8:3). Furthermore, we need to be cognizant of the everlasting covenant’s power through the blood of Jesus. One cannot be a believer and not believe in the power of this covenant. We serve a covenant keeping God who honors His Word which He upholds above His name.
